Last week, 13 Red River Region Pony Clubbers (including Holly, Maddy and Olivia from Pony Up) traveled to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky for the 2011 USPC Championships & Festival. Holly & Maddy competed on the Region's Junior D Quiz Team, which finished 17th out of 40 teams from all over the country. Maddy said "I enjoyed meeting new people and learning new things. Not being able to confer in Barn and in only one round of Classroom was hard, but it showed that all the studying paid off." From Holly and her mom Tammie: "Champs was so much fun, especially in a Festival year....pin trading went extremely well and we collected pins from about 35 different regions and countries. Loved watching the Mounted Games Championships and we are pumped about playing some of these games at home". Olivia competed on the Region's Novice Eventing Team and stayed after Champs for Festival clinics. Olivia raved about how much fun she had: "This was an amazing experience! I was on a team with people all the way from Louisiana to Argyle, TX to Arizona and met many other people from across the country (and even a few Canadians). The Kentucky Horse Park has a fantastic facility and it was thrilling to ride in Rolex Stadium! Sherman (my horse) was awesome. He had a good dressage test and went double clear on XC and SJ but unfortunately I was TE'd in XC because I forgot a jump (oops!). I had a great time with my team and we ended up in 4th place overall. Festival was a neat experience and I got to ride with and meet many top riders. Some of the people I met included Stephen Bradley, Gina Miles, Daniel Stewart, Sheila Taormina and David O'Connor. It was so cool! My favorite clinic was my dressage ride with National Examiner Susan Harris because she was very positive and I could see a lot of improvement in that clinic. It has been my goal for a long time to go to Champs for Eventing. I would highly recommend for other pony clubbers to go if you get the chance!" Congratulations to all the Red River Region competitors - we are so proud of you!
Ambra & Alfie and Jordan & Tilly traveled to Kansas City August 3 - 8 for the USPC Midwest Championships held at the beautiful American Royal Center. Ambra's Novice Eventing team took 3rd in Horse Management and 5th overall, while Ambra finished 6th individually. Jordan's Dressage team took 1st in Horse Management and 3rd overall, with Jordan finishing 3rd individually for her musical freestyle. We applaud these girls for their hard work and determination! They made our club and region very proud!
Ambra's months of hard work paid off last week when she earned her C-3 rating. Ambra is the first PUPC member to achieve a national, upper-level rating and we are so proud of her! Congratulations also go to Anna, who earned her D-2 rating last week!
Take a look at the new "Summer Camp" page for pics and info about our first PUPC camp last week at Karma Ridge. Stay tuned for a play-by-play of camp highlights!
Ambra & Jordan are off to the Midwest Championships at the end of the month. Ambra will represent PUPC and Red River Region in eventing and Jordan will represent us in Dressage. The club awarded each girl a $100 scholarship in honor of their achievements! Good luck at Champs girls!
